Head and Hat Size Measurement: Step-by-Step Guide:
What You'll Need:
Stage 1: Using a Piece of String to Measure Your Head
Measuring Head With String
Positioning the String: Hold the piece of string and wrap it around the back of your head, just slightly above your ears or about 1/8 of an inch higher than the tip of your ear.
Guidance for Placement: Pull the string around to meet at the center of your forehead, just above your eyebrows. If you prefer your hat to sit a bit higher, you can adjust the string to match exactly how your hat sits on your head.
Ensuring Comfort: It's crucial not to pull the string too tight. Instead, the string should comfortably encircle your forehead, ensuring it's neither too tight nor too loose. This should mimic the feel you desire for your hat as it rests on your head.
Marking the Meeting Point: You can mark the point where the string meets with a pen or marker.

Stage 2: Measure the String with a Ruler

Marking the Perimeter: Once you have marked the point of circumference on the string, lay it flat.
Using a Ruler: Place a ruler underneath the string to measure the circumference in inches. Ensure you measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch for accuracy.
This step allows you to quantify the size of your head accurately, providing the necessary measurement to determine your hat size.

Stage 3: Match the Circumference to the Hat Sizing Chart
After using the string or head measuring tool to determine your circumference, you now have the precise measurements needed to consult the hat sizing chart. For instance, if you found that your head measures 22 inches overall, you would choose a hat size of medium or a fitted size of 7 to 7 1/8 inches.
Utilize our convenient hat size chart below to identify your hat size. These sizes range from 20 - 20 7⁄8 inches to 25 - 25 5⁄8 inches or 52 centimeters to 65 centimeters in circumference.

Frequently Asked Questions
I'm between sizes, what should I do?
If you find yourself between sizes or are unsure about which size to choose, we recommend sizing up. Why? Because each hat from Hat and More is equipped with some form of adjustability!
Understanding that head shapes and sizes vary from person to person, we've designed a range of sweatband liners, foam inserts, adjustable strings, and hook-and-loop straps to cater to your individual needs.
Why is your size different from other brands?
Sizes can vary between manufacturers. While there's an industry standard for hat sizes, each manufacturer produces hats in their unique way, leading to slight variations in sizes.
These differences emphasize the importance of obtaining an accurate measurement of your head and then matching it to the correct size on the specific size chart provided by the manufacturer. This ensures the best fit for your comfort and style.
What hat shape do I need for my face shape?
You can find the right hat style for your face shape. While finding a hat that fits your head is crucial, it's equally important to choose one that complements the contours of your face. Here are some recommendations for finding the perfect hat style based on the shape of your face:
Remember, these are suggestions rather than strict rules. The key is to find a hat that not only looks good but also feels like it was tailor-made for you. Personal comfort and style should guide your choice.
The Hat and More Perfect Fit Sizing System
At Hat and More, we understand that everyone's head is unique, just like your brother, mother, neighbors, or even your dog. With over 50 years of hat-making experience, we've mastered the art of achieving the perfect fit for every hat. Here's how our Perfect Fit Sizing System works:
Sewn-in Sweatbands:
Many of our hats feature sewn-in sweatbands, providing the comfortable and snug fit you desire. If your hat has a fabric headband that's sewn-in, chances are there's a ribbon, Velcro tab, or string hidden behind it. Use these to adjust the hat to your preferred tightness. Some hats come with an elastic sweatband, ensuring a secure fit for an active lifestyle while keeping sweat away from your face.
Velcro Tab Sweatbands:
We've introduced a clever system to enhance the comfort of some hats by incorporating a removable sweatband that attaches to sewn-in Velcro tabs. If your hat includes this feature, you can replace the standard sweat liner with a half- or full-size reducer sweatband. Both options are provided with your new hat at no extra cost.
Adhesive Inserts:
Our most common size adjuster is the self-adhesive foam insert, included free with nearly every hat we ship. These inserts allow you to decrease the size of ANY hat by up to one full size. Simply place these inserts behind the sweatband to achieve a snug fit around your head.
With our Perfect Fit Sizing System, we ensure that your hat not only looks great but also feels tailor-made for you, providing ultimate comfort and style.

How to Measure Size for Jackets
A) Neck: Ensure precise measurements by encircling the measuring tape around the neck, positioning it approximately one inch above the shoulders.
B) Shoulder: To accurately determine shoulder width, measure from one shoulder edge to the other along the back. Locate the points where the shoulders meet the arms for precise measurements.
C) Chest: To obtain an accurate chest measurement, encircle the tape around the broadest section of your chest, ensuring proximity under the arms. Maintain a level and flat position of the tape across both the front and back for precise results.
D) Sleeve: Measure from the shoulder joint point to the wrist for an accurate assessment of arms length.
E) Back Length: Back length is the measurement from the base of the center Back Neck Point or cervical to the natural waistline level across the belly button.
